Take a look at this amazing Cakes of Thrones collaboration. Host, Valentina Terzieva or Valentina’s Sugarland tells us more …
Tell us about your collaboration
Cake of Thrones is a Collaboration inspired by the wildly popular TV show Game of Thrones. The show creates a fantasy world where kings and knights battle for control of a mid-evil world filled with magic and fantastic creatures such as dragons, white walkers, tree people and giants. All the pieces in this collaboration are made out of cake, fondant, sugar or chocolate. Too sweet to eat? Not at all! While some characters seem strange or even scary, our artists have endeavoured to capture the beauty and soul within each character.
What inspired you to do this theme?
I am big fan of the show Game of Thrones and always wanted to make a cake, figurine or bust inspired by the show.  The last season of the show (Season 8) begins April 14th and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a collaboration about it.
Tell us about some of the pieces that have been made
I love the mixture of busts, figurines and painted cakes that we have in our collaboration. Everyone did their best and poured their soul into the collaborations pieces. I was so happy and excited when my “cakers of thrones” sent me the pictures of their pieces and honestly love all of them!
How many members were there in your collaboration?
31
How did you decide on this group of people?
I have been participating in different collaborations since 2014 and through them have met talented sugar artist from around the world. Many of them have become good friends over the years. So when I decided to organize a collaboration I just invited a few of my cake friends and some of the great names in our business. I did not want to make a very big collaboration because managing a large group is very time consuming and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to handle it by myself.
Therefore IÂ decided to limit the group to no more than 50 participants.
Did something go wrong during the trial?
No, everything went smoothly and without any big issues. Of course, I had to postpone the deadline a few times but this is a very common thing in the world of cake collaborations.
If you did it again, what would you do differently?
I think I would invite more artists to participate. I don’t fear the admin work anymore and the time you have to invest in it, so I would go bigger! Other than that, I think we had it perfect this time already.
If I had to do another collaboration, how should the others be involved?
If I find myself inspired to host another collaboration I would be happy to involve other talented artists. Because many collaborations are planned as a surprise for the public, I wouldn’t necessarily post a public call for participants. However, if someone would be interested in participating in future collaborations they could message me through Facebook and I would keep them in mind for future projects that might suit their talents.
